Let's call this the "About the Author" Section
I find it a humorous occurrence that despite my status as a novelist I still have extreme difficulty writing about myself. Even more comical is how long winded I tend to be once I start. A good summary might be this.
I grew up in the southeastern United States in an area that was rural when I was young, and I spent most of my youth running around the woods behind my childhood home. I could run for miles without seeing or hearing another human being. I could camp where deer would walk up next to my sleeping frame and no alarms or phones would break the cool silence of the natural world. I grew up with river water in my veins and trees over my head, playing along the banks imagining lost worlds, as if dinosaurs, or magic could be waiting around any corner... and that's the way I've always liked it.
As a young man I entered a program which taught me how to be a leader, a survivalist and a good person, of stronger character than many of my peers, all while making lifetime bonds of friendship and brotherhood. I earned my Eagle rank with 82 merit badges and have a lot of good stories to look back on.
I keep all of this alive in my day to day by continuing to do what I love. I still backpack, and kayak, go on long hikes and travel when I can, but I've slowed down a bit since an accident in 2015 left me physically restricted in ways I'd not previously known...
Luckily I have always loved scholarly pursuits as well and I fill much time with these interests. Even from a young age, I always wanted to know why, and how people did things, not only the way that they did around the world and throughout time, but why. I wanted to figure out how other cultures thought and felt. I wanted to know how people worked. I wanted in their heads. I needed to understand their hearts. See, everything is about context with me. There are no simple facts without a story behind them, and I pursue every avenue of that in my writing and artwork. It benefits me as both an artist and an author, but it also keeps my mind engaged from day to day. My studies have covered physics, biology, geography, anthropology, philosophy, sociology, film, media literacy, and world religion.
So yes I am a bit of a nerd, a bit of an outdoorsman and a bit of an overachiever... but I'm also a dry comic and an entertainer when the mood strikes me. I Even do a mean Shaggy impersonation from Scooby Doo. I think that it's helpful to stay humble and open to new experiences.
So that's a little about me. I think that it's the type of thing I'm "supposed" to cover. Like I said, talking about myself is always a bit "wonky" so I hope you enjoy.
